witchery grubs.jpg

Digging for Witchetty Grubs is always done by women (Kungka). It is considered to be a delicacy and is real treat.
The Witchetty Bush is found in Central Australia and traditionally a digging stick (Witchetty Stick) is made from the Mulga tree which is a hard wood. They dig to expose and break open the root. This is where the grubs are found. Witchetty Grubs can be eaten raw or cooked on the coals of a small fire. The texture of a cooked grub is like pop-corn and the taste is like creamed corn.
